Transferring an existing domain name involves changing the registrar company that provides the domain registration service, so after the transfer, you will have to manage things like renewal fees or DNS resource record modifications through the new company. The transfer process is standard with most domain name extensions. Some country-code extensions are more specific and involve different steps, but in the general case transferring a domain name entails a few basic steps and one of them is unlocking the domain. The lock is a safety feature, which is being embraced by more and more domain name registry organizations. It is a standard feature supported by all generic TLDs. If a domain is locked, it won’t be possible to start a transfer procedure, so nobody can even attempt to snatch your domain. The domain lock can be annulled only through the account where the domain is registered in the first place and all new domains that support this functionality are locked by default the moment they are registered.

Registrar Lock in Cloud Hosting

The Hepsia Control Panel, which comes with each and every cloud hosting package that we offer, will give you total control over your domain names. You’ll find all domains registered through our company conveniently listed in alphabetical order in a separate section of the Control Panel. Those whose extensions support the registrar lock option will have a tiny padlock icon next to them. By clicking the icon, you can see if the specific domain is locked or unlocked and you can update the present status by clicking once more – the procedure is as straightforward as that. You will not have to wait for the change to propagate or for our company to do anything, as the change of the status takes effect momentarily, even if you see something different on WHOIS lookup websites. After all, it takes time for such websites to ‘refresh’ the information that they display.

Registrar Lock in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you wish to transfer a domain name from our company to another domain registrar and you have a semi-dedicated server account, you’ll be able to get the domain name ready with just several mouse clicks. All your domains will be shown in a separate section of the Hepsia Control Panel – the very same tool via which you will administer your hosting account. If a given gTLD or ccTLD supports the registrar lock feature, you will notice a padlock icon. You can see whether the domain is locked or not by clicking on that icon once and you can alter the status by clicking once again. That’s all it takes and there will be nothing else that you or we will have to do, so you can proceed with the transfer straight away. The update will take effect momentarily, so you won’t have to wait for the status to be changed on WHOIS lookup sites.
