An Operating System is the low-level software which controls a PC. It handles the way your hardware functions, the communication with peripheral devices like a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between apps, and the prioritization of applications when multiple ones run simultaneously. Every program that's installed on a desktop or a laptop works by sending requests to the OS for different services using an application program interface (API). The interaction with the OS can be performed using a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the Internet hosting world, the Operating System is what controls a hosting server together with any software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but, in addition any other application for example a VOIP or a game server. If there are virtual machines created, they use a guest OS which runs on the server host OS.

Multiple OS in VPS Servers

We provide as many as 3 different Linux distributions for the Operating System of our VPS servers - Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu. These are some of the safest and the most reliable OSs out there and we offer all three of them rather than just 1 since we realize that you may want to set up some software which has specific requirements regarding the Operating System it'll run on. The latter is due to the fact that each of the three Operating Systems has a huge support community behind it and there're various software packages you could install on the server. Your OS choice will also determine exactly what hosting Control Panel can be set up on the VPS if you would like to use one and because of this we offer multiple Control Panels as well. If you ever decide that you need to have another OS, our tech support team can quickly wipe the existing one and set up the one that you would like. In addition, we offer an optional service to keep the OS on your VPS updated weekly.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

In case you decide to get one of our dedicated servers, you shall find three Operating Systems on the order page since we want to give you a wider choice with regard to the system environment on your server as different applications can have specific requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian include different modules developed by their large support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and benefit from a reliable and risk-free Internet hosting service. Depending on your decision, you'll also have different Control Panels to choose from. Of course, we can always replace the Operating System if the one you've selected in the beginning does not meet the requirements of the software which you'd like to run. We can also upgrade your OS on a regular basis to keep it as secure as possible through our Managed Services upgrade package.
