There are numerous ways to point a domain to another domain or subdomain and one of them is by setting up a CNAME record. In case you own a domain name and you have created a site through some on-line service which provides you with a service subdomain, you can easily link the two by creating a CNAME record for your-domain.com that points to subdomain.provider.com. What you're going to achieve in this way is that www.your-domain.com will be in the web browser address bar while it opens the already mentioned Internet site from the servers of the third-party provider. It is important to know that if you set up a CNAME record, any other records your domain may have will stop functioning, so you cannot have both a CNAME record pointing to one provider and working e-mail address with a different one. The CNAME record is always an alpha string, not a number, and often more configuration may be necessary with the other provider.

CNAME Records in Cloud Hosting

You can easily create CNAME records in case you have a cloud hosting plan with our company. We will provide you with an easy-to-use CP that enables you to observe all DNS records for the domain names and subdomains that are hosted in the account. Setting up a CNAME record includes a number of simple steps - pick the domain/subdomain, select CNAME as the type, enter the hostname you are redirecting to, and then just click on the Save button. The procedure is as easy as that and the new record will be active almost right away. That way, you'll have more control over your domains and subdomains and over the content they open, you'll be able to set up a private URL for company e-mails, and much more. If you feel uncertain about how to create a new record or you have never done such a task, you will find there's a short video tutorial where you can see the whole process first-hand. If you decide to change or delete an existing CNAME record created for a domain/subdomain hosted on our end, it will take you literally only a mouse click to make it happen.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you have a semi-dedicated server from our company and you would like to set up a CNAME record, it will require just a couple of mouse clicks to complete this task. The plans are managed via our in-house built Hepsia hosting Control Panel where you will find a section devoted to the DNS records of the domain names and subdomains hosted within the account. To create a CNAME record, you'll only have to choose the record type and the hostname (domain or subdomain), type in where the latter is going to be forwarded to and save the change. The new record is going to be active almost immediately in our system and will propagate worldwide within several hours. Editing or deleting an existing CNAME record within the account is equally simple and takes a click. In case you experience any issues, you can go through our comprehensive help article, check out the short video on the topic that we have added in the Control Panel, or you can just contact us for assistance.
